Since 1993 the mission of 40 West Assistance & Referral Center has been to provide material assistance and referral services to people in our community requesting help.  When appropriate we refer clients to other public and private agencies which provide counseling, shelter, or other types of assistance.  Edwin Hostetter currently directs the center.

Last year we granted $32,000 toward averting rental evictions and utility turnoffs among 400 households.  We dispensed 17,000 pounds of food to 3400 households as well.  You helped make this possible through your donations of money and nonperishables.  Volunteers also gave 600 hours of their time.  We appreciate that very much!

Somebody who needs food may come once per month with ID, but you may present DSS emergency food vouchers anytime.  If you need rent or utility aid and if you live in Baltimore city zip code 21207 or 21229, then once per year bring your photo ID and bring either your district court eviction notice or your BGE turnoff notice.

40 West is currently seeking a part-time director.
